John Healey MP,
Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, commenting on new
child homelessness figures from Shelter, said:
“Tory Ministers
should hang their heads in shame over these shocking figures showing over
120,000 children are facing homelessness this Christmas. These are the children
that can’t go home and after six years Conservative Ministers can’t dodge their
responsibility for this scandal.
“Six years of
failure on housing has led directly to today’s rapidly rising homelessness.
Since 2010, Ministers have ended funding for genuinely affordable social rented
housing, cut housing benefit for families on low incomes, done nothing about
rising costs and insecurity for private renters, and slashed funding for
homelessness services by almost a half.
“Homelessness is
not inevitable and the last Labour Government cut homelessness before it rose
again after 2010.
“Ministers should
back Labour’s plans to build thousands more affordable homes to rent and buy,
and re-think further planned cuts to housing benefit which will make the
problem of growing homelessness worse.”

Hello. I was wondering about Evgenia’s score, some pleope talk about how they don’t like her technique and that technical panel almost never calls her edge on the lutz attempt, and I was curious if she got the proper edge call on that jump, how much would her scores be affected? would it make a big difference? Looking foward to your reply. Thank you!
Hi, there are three cases of point deduction for takeoff edge error, depending on severity.
One, when the edge is clearly inside for Lutzes / outside for flips, the technical panel should mark the jump with an e sign, which would reduce the jump’s BV by 30%. For a triple Lutz, the difference is 1.8 points (6.0 to 4.2). This sign would also call for mandatory negative GOE of -2 to -3. In triple SOV, that’d translate to -1.4 to -2.1. So total deduction for this error ranges from -3.2 to -3.9.
Two, when the takeoff edge is unclear or flat, the right call would be a ! sign, which would not lead to BV reduction, but require mandatory negative GOE of -1 to -2, or -0.7 to -1.4 in triple SOV.
Three, when the takeoff edge is unclear but not enough for the technical panel to make a call, judges can use their own assessment to make a GOE deduction of -1, or -0.7 in triple SOV.
Janny does have edge issue with her Lutzes, but her error can fall anywhere within these 3 levels of severity, so in order to say which the right deduction is, you’d have to look at her Lutzes case by case.

more people flutz than they lip right? why tho?
No, I wouldn’t say so. If you look at the average, I’d say we have a roughly equal number of skaters who are more comfortable with Lutzes than flips and the other way round. There are also skaters who are good at both of these jumps. If you consider, say, our current top 6 men, you’d see that Lutz is the preferred option for Yuzuru and Boyang. Flip is the preferred for Shoma and Patrick. Nathan is quite good at both, while Javier, well, neither his flips nor Lutzes are stuffs you want to look at too carefully.
But it’s a very small sample, and rather odd in the distribution too, considering that as a rule of thumb, the men are more comfortable with the Lutz, and the ladies, the flip. If you want an evidence of this, just count how many more men have been and are attempting quad Lutz compared to quad flip in competition.
I’d conjecture that you have the impression of more flutzez than lips because the Lutz is a jump that gets talked about a lot in the ladies’ competition. It is the most difficult triple routinely attempted in their field and has the most important implication in scoring. Over at the men’s side, with the quad revolution, their triples receive much less attention :)

In general a lutz or a flip with a wrong take off edge will the landing be bad?
Based on observation I’d say a flip taken off on outside edge usually causes more trouble to the landing than a Lutz taken off on inside. The reason being the difference in preparation for each jump type.
For a flip, the skater would step into the takeoff circle using either a three-turn or a mohawk and launch into the air immediately after the turn. That mechanics is necessary in order to keep the takeoff edge on inside.
This is Nathan’s flip takeoff, using the mohawk approach:
This is Yuzu’s flip takeoff, using the three-turn approach:
The key that determines the success of this jump is to keep everything in a tight circle: slight inside edge, left shoulder brought in close to the body, rotation initiated using the right side only. If the skater switches to an outside edge after the turn, two things will happen: one, their body position would become wider than what is ideal, because the outside edge causes a lean, and two, the takeoff becomes counter-rotated and makes it a lot harder for the skater to gain angular momentum. Both of those would lead to an unbalanced landing, caused by either under-rotation if the skater does not have enough momentum, or over-rotation if the skater overcompensates for the counter-rotation, like what happened to chibi Yuzu here:
(as you can see in that correct takeoff above, the trick that Yuzu has figured out in order to fix his flip is: one, switch to the three-turn approach, and two, point his toe away from his body for the takeoff and forcefully makes his flip counter-rotated - the orthodox practice is to point the toe inward along the jump’s rotational direction, like what Nathan did for his quad flip)
A Lutz, on the other hand, is generally taken off after the skater skates backward for some distance on a straight line into a counterclockwise lobe, or clockwise if they rotate their jumps to the right, which is also in order to establish and maintain the outside edge:
With this preparation, even if the skater switches edge to inside before takeoff, as long as they keep everything tight and take enough care not to overpower the jump, the landing would generally work out fine. Since skaters who have issue with Lutz usually are good at the flip jump, they are already quite good at controlling for this type of neat takeoff, like Kaetlyn with her (f)Lutz below: clearly wrong takeoff but perfect landing.
forget keeping a copy of your measurements, a *virtual design of your intended layout* must be the MOST Sam thing to do. (outside of pigeon-punching, obvs)
Honestly I’m using a free online room planner and I’m really mad they don’t have an “auto add measurement captions” function like a paid CAD program would.
My coworkers all thought that was pretty cute too, but as a former scene designer my first instinct is to get an accurate plan of the space and then start filling it with my shit! It’s what I do.

See, it’s so foreboding when it’s empty, but then you fill it up with furniture and
Aside from that one awkward bit where you walk in and are immediately confronted by the back of the sofa I’m doing okay, and honestly that’s the least awkward configuration. And see how nice it looks (sorry about the BLINDING WHITE WALLS):
